Expressing the Fransaskois Identity
In her study, Karine Laviolette described the Fête fransaskoise as 'self-representation'. According to her, it was 'a special place for expressing Fransaskois culture and identity, a way of strengthening the sense of belonging to the Fransaskois community'. Of course, this definition seemed very academic. Most of the participants spoke of it as an opportunity to celebrate as a family and among friends. But as well as the pleasure of getting together in celebration, there was also that of living a francophone identity without any constraints. Jeannine Poulin-Denis explained this (audio). For Hélène Marchildon from Zenon Park, the gathering brought out among many young people a new awareness of their distinct character, leading to a feeling of pride (audio).
