The AJF

Fransaskois Youth Association

The Association jeunesse fransaskoise (AJF) (Fransaskois Youth Association) was founded in 1977. It sponsored cultural projects which gave young people the opportunity to speak French and better understand their culture. On s'garoche à Batoche and the Fête fransaskoise were two of its initiatives. In September 1978, there was a meeting of the Western Committee of the Federation of French-Canadian Youth. The four western provincial coordinators looked into a proposal for a historical festival on a national scale, which would take shape under the name of On s'garoche à Batoche. It's the ACF which brought together a committee of organizations to produce a Fransaskois festival. It was the beginning of a tradition which was to last for 25 years.
