Fransaskois Music

Hart Rouge à la cérémonie d'ouverture, Prud'homme, 1987 What is Fransaskois music? What is it like? How is it distinctive? Fransaskois artists gave personal responses to these questions. Michel Lalonde, who is of Franco-Ontarian origin, spoke of an osmosis with the land of the plains which coloured his music (audio). Gilles Groleau described what distinguished his group from other groups of traditional Quebec music. The distinction was found in the musical influences which gave a western flavour to their sound (audio). Annette Campagne evoked the freedom provided by the space on the plains and the openness of the people who live there, which affected her creative work (audio).
